A Wired Spectacle

6 Nov

I’ve written too many stories about the crazy wiring in Bangkok.  It’s a mess.  I even posted an entry yesterday about a terrible wire fire caused by a cable calamity. I thought that I wouldn’t need to write any further stories.  Bangkok Blog readers, the few that there are, are probably sick of reading about this city’s crazy wiring.

But I couldn’t help myself.  While walking down a street not far from the hospital, I came upon an extraordinary scene.  Workers were toiling away at laying even more cables.  The way they were doing this was truly bizarre.  Huge coils of wire were being unthreaded and hauled down various streets.  This military style campaign to lay heavy wires extend for at least three blocks.  Wires were first stretched along the sidewalks and, I suppose, later attached to poles in, I’m sure, a totally random fashion.

There’s not much to say about this operation except to have you take a look at the photos.  I had a meeting to get to so I couldn’t hang around to see how they hung all this wire.  But I’m sure that whatever the outcome , it probably looked like a bit of a mess. Hopefully, it won’t catch on fire.

  1. You’d think that all these superfluous wires would be worth something, even to recycle our melted down. Would make it more cost effective to put up new stuff on a clean line. ANd these same sidewalks are shared by pedestrians and Cyclists and motorcycles!

    • I’m sure you’re right. All that hanging partially non working cabling should be removed and recycled. The Bangkok government has promised to clean up the mess. We’ll see. As to the battle between pedestrians and cables, cables seem to always win.
